Order Pickers in Northeast Ohio
An order picker is the right truck when the job is picking cases or single items, not moving full pallets. The operator rides up with the platform, so every rack level is in direct reach. Nobody has to bring the pallet down first. Some operations stock many different items (high-SKU), such as parts rooms, e-commerce fulfillment and distribution with broken-case picking. There, an order picker cuts out a huge amount of needless pallet movement. It also requires a fall-protection harness and disciplined operating habits. That is a training question as much as an equipment one.

Order Pickers questions
1 Is fall protection required?
Yes, fall protection is required on an order picker. Operators on a rising platform must wear a body harness. The lanyard must attach to the marked anchor point on the truck. This is not optional. It must be part of operator training and daily practice, not a policy nobody enforces.
2 Do order pickers need guidance?
Order pickers usually need guidance in very narrow aisles. Wire or rail guidance keeps the truck centered, so the operator can focus on picking instead of steering at height. In wider aisles, guidance is optional. Decide at the rack layout stage, because adding guidance to an installed system is disruptive.
3 Can one truck do both picking and pallet handling?
One truck does both jobs poorly. Order pickers and counterbalance trucks solve different problems. A truck chosen as a compromise tends to do both jobs slowly. Most operations with real pick volume end up with both trucks.
