Pallet jacks and walkie stackers handle a large share of pallet movement that does not need a rider truck at all. Electric pallet jacks move pallets along a dock, through a back room or between staging areas. They do it faster and more safely than dragging a manual jack. Walkie stackers add lift for light-duty put-away without the size or cost of a counterbalance truck. Northeast Ohio has plenty of older, small-bay buildings. In those buildings, these are often the only trucks that fit.

1 Do operators need certification for a pallet jack?
Yes, operators need certification for a powered pallet jack. OSHA 1910.178 covers powered industrial trucks, and an electric pallet jack is one. Training, evaluation and certification all apply. A purely manual hand jack is not a powered industrial truck, so that rule does not cover it. Safe handling training is still a good idea.
2 Walkie or walkie-rider?
The choice between a walkie and a walkie-rider comes down to travel distance. If operators walk long runs again and again, a rider model pays for itself quickly. It moves more loads and cuts fatigue. For short moves around a dock, a walk-behind is simpler and cheaper.
3 Can a walkie stacker replace a counterbalance truck?
A walkie stacker can sometimes replace a counterbalance truck for light-duty work at modest height in a small building. It will cost much less. For sustained rack work or anything above roughly 12 ft, it cannot. We would rather find out which case you are in before we quote.
